Building From The Bottom Up

Where does confidence really come from?
We tend to think it comes from encouragement: tell them enough times they're capable, and eventually they'll believe it.
But confidence doesn't come from what they hear. It's built step by step, giving attention to the details, and starting from the bottom up.
John Wooden won 10 national championships in 12 years at UCLA, including 7 in a row, a record that still stands. Every season, before a single play was drawn up, he sat his players down and taught them how to put on their socks and tie their shoes. Correctly.
Future NBA legends like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Bill Walton thought it was beneath them. Wooden knew better. A wrinkled sock meant a blister. A blister meant a player who couldn't compete when it mattered.
Championship teams (families) and confident kids are built by paying attention to the details. As that foundation is built from the bottom up, we remove the distractions and disruptions that interfere with the development our kids need.
🧠 WHAT THE RESEARCH SHOWS
Harvard Center on the Developing Child has found that self-regulation and executive function, the skills kids need to manage themselves under pressure, are built through repeated, coached practice, not one-time instruction.
Tying your shoes doesn't win championships.
But it can keep you from losing one.
If you're a dad, you're a coach.
Your team depends on you passing down the values and skills that build a strong foundation.
There's probably something in your home right now that's easy to overlook.
Until it isn't.
Start there. Build from the bottom up.
